Takin’ a bullet

this is just…precious…

Interesting…

I am not exactly sure what one would expect from this, but it is looks pretty cracked out:

New Land of Milk and Honey

playin’ at the Soap Factory now…apparently it involves communal living and fashion.

(also, in case it doesn’t show up, this photo was entitled “Crystal Meditation”)

Bitch Mag talks Kathleen Hanna

Here is a nice little ditty on the ever cool Kathleen Hanna (who always makes me want to rock).

Precious!

Saw an article about these ladies in BUST…their clothing is eco-friendly AND their blog is cute as a button!

What do YOU want/need?

Talking with friends (the ladies of the original C.L.A.P.), everyone agreed that it is very important to shape the organization through the input of those who are part of it. That said, what is it that YOU want or need to be creative, powerful, and supported in doing what you want to do? Anything goes—brainstorm! C.L.A.P. is meant to be inclusive, not exclusive, so ideally it will be able to serve many different needs for different people. BUT we will never know what you want it to be unless you share!

Some ideas so far include:

an online forum

classes taught by each other to learn skills

workshops to make projects (such as headbands, dressforms, etc. etc.)

meetings in community spaces

volunteer projects

a library of resources

events sponsored by C.L.A.P.

…what else can you think of?

E-mail Newsletters

So while I have been adding links to the site for a smattering of different resources and arty-type things, I have also been subscribing C.L.A.P. to e-news letters from various art orgs (also, if you ever want to e-mail something to us, please do so at CLAPbeindependent at gmail dot com). Now, I used to work for a small publishing company in which one of my many tasks was preparing the e-newsletter and let me tell you, after getting these newsletters via email, I wonder if anyone ever read anything I sent out…not because they aren’t interesting, but because there is just SO much information in each that I can’t possibly focus my attention on one email for that long.

That said, I have been perusing the e-news for interesting opportunities, workshops, that sort of thing. There have been a lot of grants announced, but many of them are so specific that I am going to leave that up to you to check out (but if you are looking for grants, definitely check out some of the links for art orgs I have posted, especially the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and Springboard for the Arts )…any other good e-news that I (or anyone else) should sign up for out there?

DIY Wedding Prep—Headbands

The future Ms. Jake Luck was kind enough to share some of her wedding prep photos with C.L.A.P. Though the headbands are for her wedding this summer, they can be made for any event (or day)—all you need is ribbon, feathers, elastic, and glue guns (and of course snacks, you should always have snacks).

MIA’s Foot in the Door

Tomorrow is the opening reception for the fourth Foot in the Door exhibit at the MIA. Any Minnesotan artist willing to stand in line for an hour or two wielding a piece of art that fits within a cubic foot will have their artwork displayed at this crazy exhibit.

For more info on the exhibit, click here.

I’ll be skiing but will have art work there (which I will check out some other time). Lisa Yednorowicz of Old Cake Paintings will have a piece, as well as the guy that stood in line with me and talked about the negative aspects of digital culture and how much he loves Damien Hirst . And many others as well (last I heard, 43,000 pieces were submitted).

Things to do!

Because winter is getting old…

Maybe it is time to start some events…any suggestions for craft nights or volunteer projects?
